Aransas Pass, Texas Senior Citizen's Center
The center provides not only activities for our older citizens, it also provides transportation for medical appointments, shopping, etc. Activities: Bingo for all senior citizens at 1:00 pm every Thursday; Dominos and cards every Tuesday from 1:00-3:00 pm. Retired teachers meet every 3rd Wednesday at 1:00 pm. The center is located at 254 S. 13th Street, 361-758-2929.
The American Association of Retired Persons has an active chapter in Aransas Pass. It holds monthly meeting at the Senior Citizens' Center and plans social and recreational activities. AARP general business meetings are the 1st Wednesday from 11:00-12:00 Noon. There is a covered dish luncheon every 3rd Wednesday. Call 361-758-2218 for further information.
The Grandmother's Club is a local club which holds regular monthly meetings and social affairs for it's members. Second Monday of each month at 1:00 pm. Call 361-758-2939 for further information.
There are a number of other social and civic organizations in the community which offer a variety of activities no matter what your interest are. In addition, a large number of our senior citizens take advantage of the fine fishing offered in this area as a means of recreation and filling the freezer. Special bowling leagues have been formed by senior citizens (Coastal Bend Bowling Lanes, W. Hwy. 35, Aransas Pass, 361-758-3225; regular league on Tuesday at 1:00 pm; Fun time on Thursday at 1:00 pm). Others enjoy golf; still others enjoy bird watching. Aransas Pass is a haven for people from the North who leave their colder states behind for the warmth of our climate. Many live in recreational vehicles, others rent motel rooms by the month, some rent houses or own homes here. Wherever they come from they always find others from their home state.
