Xeriscape Learning Center and Design Garden , The Xeriscape Coalition consists of the Mayor's Task Force on Water Issues, Friends of the Museum, Beautify Corpus Christi Association, Nueces County Extension Service, City of Corpus Christi Water Division, Park and Recreation Department, and the Museum of Science and History. This coalition raised the funds and built a xeriscape demonstration garden adjacent to the Museum. The purpose of this garden is to demonstrate the application of the seven water wise landscaping principles in the design and creation of landscaping in South Texas. It has received the Beauty Spot award of the Beautify Corpus Christi Association and has been designated a Texas Grown Area by the Texas Department of Agriculture. There is no admission charge for visiting the garden. Free.

Cole Park - A 43-acre park along Ocean Drive with spectacular view of Corpus Christi Bay.

Corpus Christi Marina - Called the "T-heads" by locals, this scenic bayfront - great sight seeing spot, lots of boats. Buy fresh shrimp right off the shrimp boats and don't miss the colorful sailboat regatta every Wednesday evening.

Downtown Seawall - Nice spot to walk. Benches, some with shade, allow for relaxing time and great people watching.

Harbor Bridge - The second tallest bridge in Texas spans the port and connects Corpus Christi Beach to the Downtown area.

Ocean Drive - A seven-mile scenic waterfront drive lined with stately homes, parks and walking paths.

Port of Corpus Christi- The sixth largest deep-water port in the U.S. The Port's Cargo Dock One pavilion offers an incredible view of the city and ship traffic.

The Watergarden - A scenic rest area with dancing fountains on the grounds of the Bayfront Convention Center. IH-37/Airport

GCCA/CPL Marine Development Center, 4330 Waldron Road, (361) 939-7784 Reservations required, call for hours. See red drum and spotted seatrout up close in a 3,000-gallon saltwater spawning tank at one of the largest marine fish hatcheries in the world. Free.

Hans A. Suter Wildlife Park, Ennis Joslin at Nile This coastal marshland is one of the best bird watching locations in Texas! A boardwalk, viewing tower and hiking trails offer an ideal view of ducks, rare brown pelicans and other shore birds in their natural habitat. Picnic Tables. Free.

Robert's Point Park, Highway 361, Port Aransas Watch dolphins chase the ferries across the ship channel and cargo ships steam by on their way to the Port of Corpus Christi. Pavilion, picnic areas, fishing pier, scenic overlook and a play area. Free.

University of Texas Marine Science Institute, Port Aransas (361) 749-6729 Hours: Mon-Fri 8 am - 5 pm. Open weekends in the summer, Sat 9 am - 5 pm and Sun Noon - 4 pm This "mini-aquarium" addresses mysteries of the sea from a scientific viewpoint and highlights current research projects. Free.

Naval Station Ingleside Ingleside (361) 776-5939 or 776-4206. Tours: Every Tues. at 1:30 pm Home to more than two dozen U.S. Navy ships, this installation is the headquarters for the Navy mine warfare program.

Rockport Center for the Arts 902 Navigation Circle, Rockport (361) 729-5519 Hours: Tues-Sat 10 am - 4 pm, Sun 1 pm - 4 pm A showcase for works from around the region. Housed in a refurbished Victorian home nestled on the harbor. Gift shop. Free.

Conner Museum Texas A&M-Kingsville, Kingsville (361) 593-2819 Hours: Mon-Sat 9 am - 5 pm The John E. Conner Museum and the South Texas Archives preserve an authentic account of the history and nature of the area including the Peeler Collection. Free.

Historic Goliad Crossroads of Hwys. 59 and 77, 64 miles north of Corpus Christi (361) 645-3563 The third oldest municipality in the state is home to a number of important missions, battlegrounds and historical structures.

North Padre Island Seawall located on the Gulf of Mexico in front of the condo/hotel area allows a leisurely stroll and beach bicycle rentals. Rentals are also available at this seawall site for umbrellas, lounges, and boogie boards.

BIRDING ON THE BOARDWALK Port A Experience our winged wonders up close and natural on this weekly guided birding tour. Held on the boardwalk at the Port Aransas Birding Center, a scope is provided for participants to view a wide variety of birds in vivid detail. Wednesdays. 9:00 AM, no charge. LEISURE ENRICHMENT LECTURES Port A Our monthly lectures feature interesting guest speakers who talk informally about wildlife, nature, history and other fascinating topics to help enhance the use of leisure time here on the island. Sessions are held at the Ellis Memorial Library beginning at 7:00 pm. Call the Parks and Recreation office (361) 749-4158 for details on future lectures.

BEACH WALK ADVENTURE Port A Exciting and unusual experiences await participants on this guided walk by the sea. Search seaweed for the tiny creatures that call it home; feel the sea breeze and watch as each ocean wave brings up new treasures to behold. Wear appropriate shoes and bring a container for collecting. Fourth Friday of the month, 9:00 am, on the beach at Horace Caldwell Pier at the end of Beach Street, weather permitting. No charge. Ride the Ferry Free Port A The Port Aransas Ferry System provides FREE marine transportation service seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. The ride connects Mustang Island and Port Aransas with the mainland via Aransas Pass.
